Baby Ruby Macaw For Sale
The Baby Ruby Macaw is a hybrid produced by crossing a Green Wing Macaw and a Scarlet Macaw. If the male of the pair is a Green Wing, the offspring will generally have the size, in body and head, of the Green Wing. The green band of feathers in the middle of the wings will have varying amounts of orange and yellow, and some of the band feathers will also be edged or lined with shades of yellow and orange. The coloring can vary somewhat from one bird to another even in babies from the same clutch. Feather lines on the face are evident, but they are normally thinner than those of the Green Wing Macaw. The bird pictured is the offspring of a pair that the male is a Green Wing Macaw and the female is a Scarlet Macaw.
Aside from the yellow and orange coloring on the wings, this hybrid macaw looks very similar to, and is often mistaken for, a Green Wing Macaw. If the male of the pair is the Scarlet, it is very likely that the head and body size will be more similar to that of a Scarlet, and there will be less facial feathering.
The temperament of the Ruby Macaw is a meshing of the Scarlet and the Green Wing. They are normally not quite as laid back as the Green Wings Macaws, but they do inherit some of the affectionate, sensitive nature that the Green Wing Macaws are known for. I have found them to be inquisitive and, at times, mischievous. They are very playful, and are usually good talkers. Many of the baby Ruby Macaws that I have had started talking at young as 4-5 months. Since the male of my pair is the Green Wing, the babies have the looks and temperament of a Green Wing, but they have the additional yellows and oranges in the wing band. They are basically Green Wings with more color and a little more spunk.
The color and temperment can vary depending on the genes of the pair and handling as the babies grow. As with any of the macaws, the behavior of a Ruby Macaw is very much determined by its upbringing as a baby. If they are raised with affection, and taught good behavior with positive reinforcement, they are usually loving and affectionate family pets.
